Senior Acoustic Consultant, Xun Li, keeps his knowledge up to date

At Resonate Consultants, we pride ourselves on being a client-centric acoustic engineering and vibration consulting business. Senior Acoustic Consultants like Xun Li help us deliver on noise poilcy for industry xun lithis promise.

After finishing his thesis in active noise control and gaining his PhD in acoustics, he began his career doing consulting and research work in a university department. In his next role, he spent over a decade at one of Australia’s leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancies before joining Resonate Consultants in 2019.

Now with over 20 years of industry experience, Xun has worked on major industry projects throughout his career ranging from building acoustic design such as the Qenos factory at Altona and the ExxonMobil plant at Longford, to environmental noise monitoring and design for environmental characteristics including recent projects at Resonate such as the Level Crossing Removals to the Boneo Water Recycling Plant Upgrade.

‘While my project load is centred around noise policy for industry and environmental noise control such as traffic noise, I still consult on building projects,’ Xun said, demonstrating how multi-faceted our team can be.

As Resonate Consultants also places value on elements of unity and collaboration, Xun regularly provides advice and acts as a sounding board to other consultants working on a range of different projects. ‘As a consulting company, we talk about and support teamwork, but we also emphasise having strong knowledge as individuals in order to work independently and productively,’ Xun explained.

In light of recent changes to the Environment Protection Act (EPA) 2017, such as new laws surrounding the General Environmental Duty (GED), Xun has worked to update both his consultancy awareness and approach to noise limits and the associated assessments. noise policy for industry

Xun’s genuine passion for updating knowledge bases in order to make future project work more efficient and effective has benefited his most recent projects, particularly the Nuttelex facility and Future Recycling facility.

Understanding the intricacies of the changes to the EPA guidelines and the different methodologies needed to meet the GED saw Xun employ new techniques and methods for noise mitigation in relation to the Future Recycling and Nuttelex facilities, making sure that both projects aligned with the updated EPA regulations and practices.

In addition to utilising his broad experience and expertise on projects, Xun also regularly pushes to adopt new methodologies to increase consultant productivity and improve client outcomes. ‘There are tools and technologies being released all the time that provide new methodologies for completing controls and outlining mitigation techniques and we should be embracing them.’

With such extensive experience and passion for industrial-related projects, Xun’s future career plans centre around continuing to adapt to changes and adopt new techniques in order to make meaningful contributions to both clients and projects alike. noise policy for industry acoustics
