SoundSite: Revolutionising Construction Noise and Vibration Management Across Australia

At Resonate Consultants, we’re committed to enhancing the environments where people live, work, and play. One of the ways we do this is through innovation, and our web application SoundSite is leading the charge in transforming how construction noise and vibration are managed on major infrastructure projects across Australia.

SoundSite

What is SoundSite?

SoundSite is a user-friendly web application designed for both acoustic consultants and construction contractors. It enables users to self-predict, assess, and report noise and vibration impacts from construction activities in real time.

By giving site teams direct access to accurate noise prediction and management tools, SoundSite streamlines what was once a time-consuming, consultant-dependent process. The result is faster approvals, smarter mitigation, and better community outcomes, all while reducing the risk of unnecessary construction delays and compliance issues.

The Vision Behind SoundSite

Developed by Nick Henrys, Principal Acoustic Consultant at Resonate, in collaboration with software developers at SoftPositive, SoundSite was born out of real-world frustration. “We wanted to create a tool that helps us deliver the best outcomes for our clients,” says Nick.

“The idea for SoundSite came while I was working on Auckland’s City Rail Link. Every small change onsite meant we had to rerun models and update management plans, a process that could take a week. It struck me as time-consuming, inefficient and costly.” – Nick Henrys

The solution? An accessible, easy-to-use web platform that allows site engineers to model and manage construction noise themselves, without needing deep technical knowledge or complex software.

Real-World Applications

SoundSite has already been rolled out on a number of high-profile infrastructure projects across the country, proving its versatility and effectiveness on the ground:

  • New Bridgewater Bridge (TAS) Tasmania’s largest transport infrastructure project is using SoundSite for efficient noise and vibration management throughout construction.
  • Kamay Ferry Wharves (NSW) This NSW Government initiative at La Perouse and Kurnell used SoundSite to model and mitigate community noise impacts.
  • Cabramatta Loop Project (NSW) SoundSite supported out-of-hours works approvals and compliance reporting on this major rail project.
  • Main South Road & Victor Harbor Road Duplication (SA) The $810 million upgrade is using SoundSite to help environmental teams undertake accurate noise predictions, enhance community engagement, and streamline reporting. To date this has saved hundreds of hours compared to traditional spreadsheets.
  • Melton Level Crossing Removal Project (VIC) Part of Victoria’s Big Build, SoundSite is helping manage the acoustic impacts of removing level crossings and constructing the new Melton Station.
  • Suburban Rail Loop (VIC) SoundSite is integrated into the Early Works Package to support compliance, predict impacts, and facilitate fast, informed decisions.

Efficiency Meets Innovation

SoundSite is built on industry-standard algorithms, including ISO 9613-2, and takes into account real-world site conditions like topography, barriers, and shielding. The app allows teams to:
  • Model different work scenarios on the fly
  • Predict impacts from various equipment and locations
  • Receive immediate mitigation suggestions
  • Export ready-to-submit reports for environmental compliance
  • Contractors report significant time and cost savings, improved responsiveness to stakeholder concerns, and stronger collaboration between site teams and acoustic consultants.

Looking Ahead

As cities grow and infrastructure projects become increasingly complex, tools like SoundSite will be essential in ensuring that construction can proceed efficiently and sustainably, without compromising on environmental performance or community trust.

We’re proud that Australia’s biggest contractors are using SoundSite to help build transformational projects across the country.
