Design Coming to Life: Acoustic Solutions for Beca’s New Melbourne Office
Beca’s move into Melbourne Quarter Tower marks a new chapter in how they work, connect and collaborate. With workplace design evolving, their new space needed to support everything from focused solo work to lively team catch-ups. Getting the acoustics right was essential.
At Resonate, we know that good design isn’t just about what you see – it’s also about how a space sounds and feels to be in. We worked closely with Gray Puksand and Beca to help bring their vision to life with considered, practical acoustic advice.
A workspace designed for connection
Spread across Levels 22 and 23 of Melbourne Quarter, Beca’s new workplace includes a mix of open plan desks, quiet rooms, collaborative zones, a VR/AV space, and more. With such a diverse range of spaces, the acoustic design needed to strike a balance between openness and privacy.
Resonate was engaged to provide acoustic design advice across all stages – from concept design through to documentation and construction support. Our role included:
- Reviewing base building conditions and fitout documentation
- Recommending wall, ceiling and partition constructions to meet acoustic targets
- Assessing mechanical services noise and advising on noise control where needed
- Addressing speech privacy, particularly in meeting rooms and enclosed spaces
- Supporting coordination with the architect and broader design team
Practical advice tailored to the space
We provided clear, buildable advice to support both performance and cost-effectiveness. In open plan areas, we collaborated with Gray Puksand to ensure comfortable reverberation times while maintaining their aesthetic vision by advising on a mirid of different wall and ceiling solutions such as perforated ceilings and ceiling spray solutions. In focus rooms and boardrooms, we advised on achieving the right levels of privacy without over-engineering. We also worked with the team to accommodate unique elements like operable walls, all while maintaining the right balance between flexibility and acoustic integrity.
Celebrating a milestone
Artur and Vaishnav from our Melbourne team recently attended a Multicultural Association of Property Professionals (MAPP inc.) event at Beca’s new office, that brought together a powerful room of leaders, allies, and changemakers under the “Multicultural Women in Leadership” topic — and what an unforgettable event it was! It was a great opportunity to experience the space in action, connect with collaborators, and see how the acoustic design is contributing to a welcoming, functional and future-focused workplace.
It’s always rewarding to see a project move from drawings to real life – especially one that brings together so many different disciplines to support better ways of working. We’re proud to have supported Beca and the Gray Puksand team in delivering a space that looks great and sounds right.
