Shape your future through the graduate acoustic consultant program

Meet Gurkirat Singh

At Resonate Consultants, training and development is an important focus area that underpins our core values. Resonate Consultants’ graduate acoustic consultant program provides a platform for individuals like Gurkirat Singh to gain gurkirat graduate acoustic consultant practical experience in a real-world environment. Graduates learn the skills to provide quality service in the various acoustic specialities. Skills that will help them deliver distinctive, responsible and innovative work throughout their career. These are all notions that, even in his short time with our firm, Gurkirat is already learning and embracing.

Equal parts proactive and ambitious, Gurkirat acquired his Bachelor in Engineering in India. From there, he joined a start-up as part of the analyst team, which looked into ways to optimise client expenses.

In 2020, Gurkirat made the move to Australia. ‘Coming to a new country is already difficult enough; with Covid, it was overwhelming, to say the least,’ Gurkirat said. With no family or friends to connect with while abroad, Gurkirat joined Rotaract, Rotary’s sister organisation. ‘Rotaract is essentially for young professionals who want to get in contact with other people whilst volunteering,’ Gurkirat explained.

While gaining valuable life experience with Rotaract, Gurkirat balanced his volunteering with earning his Master’s Degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Adelaide. ‘The jobs market is difficult enough on its own, so if you’re an international student, it’s a little harder,’ Gurkirat said.

To find the right professional fit, Gurkirat looked into different fields. ‘I learnt about acoustics from a lecturer. Having worked with data in my previous role and with people through Rotaract, I realised how much I wanted to work with others, so acoustic consulting really is the perfect field for me,’ he said.

Discovering this passion for acoustics emboldened Gurkirat’s job search. Rather than simply applying for roles, he looked into each company’s website to understand their ethos and how this combined with his own. ‘I didn’t want to narrow myself down to one segment so early in my career, so it really stood out to me that Resonate Consultants works across many aspects of acoustics and vibration,’ Gurkirat explained.

Starting his journey with us in early 2023, Gurkirat has been soaking up industry experience across fields ranging from commercial and residential acoustics to underwater monitoring and Environmental assessments.

While still learning the fundamentals of acoustics and the intricacies associated with the different fields, Gurkirat has been absorbing project-related information and how the team interacts with clients. graduate acoustic consultant adelaide

Observation, among other things, forms a key component of our independent graduate acoustic consultant program. As such, in order to take the next step in their careers, acoustic graduates like Gurkirat must be proficient in four different fields of acoustics, have finished four modules of the AAAC course and attended the required conferences.

‘As a graduate, you are expected to be present and learn as much as possible. I am ambitious about overseeing my own project, but for that, I need confidence in my skills and appropriate experiences. Working across different projects within the organisation will only make me more efficient. I am always ambitious, so I anticipate reaching a certain level in my career,’ Gurkirat said.

In the meantime, Gurkirat has been channelling this ambition into helping his fellow team members. ‘I am very collaborative. I love working with people, and here, no one project hoards. When needed, I extend help, provided I can. Part of the ethos is working together to get things done to continuously deliver work to uphold our reputation,’ Gurkirat explained.

Resonate Consultants provides the perfect supportive culture for someone like Gurkirat, who is proactive and embraces learning. ‘There is a real honour system here that isn’t present in other organisations. You have the responsibility to earn and maintain trust by acting with integrity. No one micromanages you, which is greatly motivating,’ Gurkirat said.

Our Acoustic Education Program is just one of the ways we commit to training and development to ensure high levels of client service. Being a values-driven firm means we can provide the best services today while looking to create great acoustic consultants and acoustic processes for the future. ‘There is a genuine push for innovation and seeking superior approaches. In the future, I look forward to utilising my data analyst skills to help develop innovation tools,’ Gurkirat said. graduate acoustic consultant

Outside of work, Gurkirat funnels his ambition to make an impact into his volunteering work with Rotaract. And, when he’s not cheering on Liverpool Football Club, he likes to read about different cultures around the world and how they interacted throughout history.
